Ah, New York Comic Con 2007. There was a lot stacked against you: the bitter, freezing cold; the seas of smelly humanity; and the debacle of NYCC 2006.

I’m pleased to say, however, after experiencing Days 1 and 2, that NYCC 2007 has been a tremendous improvement over last year (aside from the fact that the press badges Andrew and I received were both mislabeled “Kung Fu Radio”). There were tons and tons of people, yes, but the crowd was excited (not angry like last year’s) and was managed much more efficiently (not like last year’s). All in all, it was serious fun.

There were deals aplenty (the 40-50% off trades at select retailers was choice), and the lines to meet creators weren’t particularly mind numbing. (I’d like to personally thank the very cool Simone Bianchi, Kevin Eastman, and Whilce Portacio for being so generous with their time).

Left to right: The legendary Brian Bolland, whose line stretched for miles (deservedly so), and the very talkative Ethan Van Sciver.

There was one pretty extravagant booth pushing dolls based on poo. Don’t worry, I don’t think it’s funny either. They might’ve been called “The Turds.” Anyways, they had a life size turd on display, all sad and lonely.

Here’s the new Blob from Hasbro, the build-a-figure from the upcoming Marvel Legends Wave 2.

Venom from the Spider-Man 3 action figure line. I have no idea what he’s holding.

Okay, so you know how Hasbro now makes Marvel Legends? Toy Biz, who used to make Marvel Legends, is now called Marvel Toys, and ironically don’t have the license to make toys based on Marvel characters anymore. So they’re making a new line, “Legendary Comic Book Heroes,” featuring independant characters. And they look awesome — way better than Hasbro’s figures.

Man. Skeletor’s really let himself go. (Note: After this picture was taken, I rode on the escalator right behind ‘ol Skelly here. His outer black underwear was awesomely/grossly splitting in the back.)

And that’s thata, as Grandma used to say. So long, from me and my old pal Soundwave!
