Man oh man, this is the good stuff. A treasure trove of original artwork has been discovered in Milt Caniff’s family estate and the Hollywood Animation Archive has been given permission to scan it all in and add it to their digital database. Apparently Caniff’s family wasn’t even aware they had these strips in their posession until some dude working with them on the DVD release of the “Steve Canyon” TV series came across them while digging around for materials to use for the DVDs.

If you’re not familiar with Caniff’s work, you have got to check these out and you’ll realize why the man’s name sits up there right alongside Kirby, Eisner and Cole. He practically single handedly reinvented the daily newspaper comic strip and influenced dozens, if not hundreds, of artists, even if they weren’t consciously aware of it
