Adventures In Obsessive Nerdery #2 - Homemade Optimus Prime Birthday Cake

In one of the cooler, less creepy bits of obsessive nerdery I’ve seen on the internet in a while, this husband and wife team not only made an Optimus Prime birthday cake, but they also created the following short video of it as well. If you’re so inclined and have some baking talent, there’s a Flickr set documenting the steps along the way so that you can recreate the process in your own home. Sweet!
“(A)fter baking 12 8×8 white cakes (9 of which were used), using 5lbs of white fondant, 6 cans of Color Spray, 3 batches of buttercream, 2 vials of silver dust mixed with vodka, and 2 very long days crafting this piece of edible art: we had ourselves our own Optimus Prime cake.”

Ya know, if I asked for an Optimus Prime cake and it wasn’t in robot mode, I’d be disappointed.
