Trovata coverTrovata, one of those expensive, “Oh, I got it at Barney’s” types of clothing companies is currently using an online comic book to sell their stuff. The Flash-based mini-site tells a story in black and white with various figures wearing the label’s clothes in color. Click on one of the colored pics and it opens up another window with an actual photo of the shirt, dress, etc.

Aside from the annoying and uncontrollable background soundtrack, it’s actually a pretty neat little advertising experiment and genuinely interesting attempt at online comic book storytelling. The panels are mostly static, but there’s some movement here and there, mainly in conjunction with the color pieces in order to entice the reader to mouse over them and click. Yet another neat example of the continuing mainstreaming of the comic book in today’s pop culture oriented society.
