South Korea, the current kings of world cinema, are unleashing another incredible looking action flick upon an unsuspecting globe. Will D-War be as good as The Host? We shall see, but I don’t know if any movie can be as good as this trailer, that’s for damn sure. More importantly, what’s with the resurgence in old school monster movies lately?

LORD OF THE RINGS redone as a Godzilla movie…I can’t argue with that!

I hope the Weinstein Bros acquire domestic rights and don’t release it for half a decade!

What part of the moderate success of The Host makes South Korea the current king of world cinema?

Yeah, I probably should’ve explained myself better in the post, but it’s actually more than just The Host. South Korean cinema has seen a rash of creativity, innovation, and great films over the last few years, most notably from directors like Park Chan-wook, Kim Ki-duk and Lee Chang-dong. The films are usually a couple years old by the time they get here, but they’re still effective all the same.
Anyway, imo this current rash of Korean films seems to be one of those focused film “movements” much like the Japanese one that just ended, or like Chinese and Iranian cinema in the 90s, American cinema in the 70s, French and Italian cinema in the 50s and 60s, etc.
