“Jonny Quest” Announced As The Latest Cartoon-To-Live-Action Property

OK, this sounds promising, and far more interesting than Speed Racer - Jonny Quest is in development as a live action flick, though the producers seem to be pinning some rather high expectations on it.
Alter said, “This is our Pirates. Our Transformers. We’ve been working on this for a year. Meeting with writers, hearing different people’s takes on it. We always knew we wanted to do an origin movie about how Race and Hadji came to join the Quest family. Dan Mazeau’s take is the ULTIMATE version of that. He’s going to be one of the biggest writers in Hollywood. He’s already one of the hottest. As for tone, this isn’t going to be some kiddie movie. Our model is Raiders… 4-quadrant? Absolutely. But with that bite or edge that made Pirates so cool.”
I’ve always loved the show, but wasn’t it always something of a tweener show, not quite a mainstream hit, not quite a cult classic? I think it can work as a live action feature, but I sincerely hope that it really isn’t expected to perform up to Pirates numbers.

The Pirates of the Caribbean movies have “bite” and “edge”? Oh wait, let me answer! No they don’t.

Jonny’s creator, Doug Wildey, always felt the show never reached it’s full potential; He actually pointed to RAIDERS as what he was shooting for (noting, of course, that RAIDERS was influenced by JONNY QUEST!)
