Madeline L’Engle 1918-2007

Publisher’s Weekly is reporting that Madeline L’Engle has passed away at the ripe old age of 89.

Author Madeleine L’Engle died last night in Connecticut, at the age of 89. Best known for her 1963 Newbery Award winner A Wrinkle in Time and its sequels, L’Engle was the author of more than 60 books for adults and young readers, most of which were published by FSG. This spring, the Square Fish imprint of Holtzbrinck reissued L’Engle’s Time Quintet in new editions.

As a kid, I loved the “Wrinkle In Time” books. Those things scared the pre-pubescent pants off me, and I can’t wait for my daughter to discover them for herself. I kinda want to dig out my old copy and read it now, actually…

I’d like to point out that the first line of this book is, “It was a dark and stormy night,” which always lead me to believe that Snoopy had written it.
