My first reaction is childish glee, but my second is utter nerd dread as I read this description of the upcoming Land of the Lost movie.

The story follows a disgraced paleontologist, his enthusiastic assistant and a macho tour guide who find themselves in a strange world inhabited by dinosaurs, monkey-people and evil reptilian “Sleestaks” following a disastrous “routine expedition.” Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas wrote the script.

Will Ferrel starring I can handle, as I think he’s one of the most versatile comedic actors in Hollywood, but his bumbling, lovable idiot skills are called upon a little too often for my tastes. Why does his character have to be a “disgraced paleontologist” instead of just a , well, paleontologist? You read that description, and any one of us can see the entire opening act of the movie in our heads, it’s been overdone so many times before. Whatever. Big screen Sleestacks are a seriously awesome idea, though making LotL into a straight up comedy is probably not.
