Superhero Movies Are Still Big Bidniss

Just a couple of interesting ads I’ve come across recently whilst perusing the dead tree magazines in the mail. First up, it looks like someone’s a fan of the whole Jessica Alba in a blond wig look because AAA of all places is running a promotion that coincides with the Fantastic Four DVD release. I guess it does make a certain amount of sense; the movie did make a little money after all, so people obviously liked it.

Next up is a Sony Blu-Ray ad featuring the Spider-Man 3 release. This one makes total sense, since it’s a Sony release, only available in hi-def on Blu-Ray. If you’re going to rub it in consumers’ faces that the only way to see one of the biggest franchises in the last 10 years in hi definition is by buying a Sony player, then this is as effective way as any. This is the third ad I’ve seen from Sony using Spider-Man to command their side of the format wars recently - I’ll scan the other two in as soon as I can locate them again.

For bigger, much more legible versions of the ads, you can click here. The Spidey ad in particular is pretty decent - the image is a cacophony of colors, but they did a good job of making Spider-Man pop against the background, recreating the whole Hi-Def “experience” quite effectively.
Edit: I’ve uploaded the other two ads to the gallery. Both are pretty much the same thing, with one promoting Sony’s HD TVs and the other focusing on the Blu-Ray players, with Spidey on the TV screens.
