Angelina’s 3D Boobies Are Box Office Gold

I maintain that the weird animation in Beowulf and Christmas Express is more creepy than cool, but I’m well aware that I may very well be in the minority since so many people are flocking to see the Dreamworks pictures. Even more impressive with the decent enough number one opening weekend for Beowulf is the fact that it generated over three and a half million dollars from less than 2% of the screens it was showing on thanks to the 3D Imax version. The Cynopsis newsletter breaks it all down.

Beowulf succeeded in slaying the competition at the box office this weekend with roughly 40% of its $28.1 million in domestic receipts coming from digital 3D screens. (Theater owners were able to charge more for 3D screening, boosting box office totals.) Meanwhile 3D IMAX screenings contributed a record $3.58 million to the total, despite showing on less than 2% of the screens it was released on.
