If This Is News…

I tend to lean towards checking out CNN throughout the day for my news, not because I agree with their political leanings more than other stations necessarily, but I do like their layout and how the site works. Normally, they have a list of the latest news, with the more serious and important stories alongside the “slice of life,” more fun fluff stories. This is all well and good, but today they threw me for a bit of a loop. I’m checking the list, see that the ice storm is causing big damage, Michael Vick’s got a 2 year sentence for his dogfights, Scott Baio’s married…and a man got shot in the nuts with a baseball.
Why is this news? For chrissakes, that’s something Bob Saget should be introducing on America’s Funniest Home Videos, not a part CNN’s Latest News list. Unless the guy managed to hold onto the ball for the out with naught but his sack. Then I’d have to argue it’s way too low on the list.

Is it sad that I heard this post’s title to the tune of Huey Lewis and the News’s “If This Is It”? Wait…don’t answer that.

I decided to watch the video, because it’s apparently, the way it’s being pitched on the site now, more about the fact that it’s being done to advertise anything than about the nut shot. Nope, it’s pretty much entirely about the nut shot. Well done, CNN. Truly, you are a proud beacon of news.
