Does Anyone Care Anymore Dept.: Animated “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” Coming to Theaters
Author: Daniel Brooks

Announced today on starwars.com, the computer animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be coming to theaters on August 15, and will then continue as a TV series on Cartoon Network. The movie/show will cover the time period between Eps 2 & 3.
So…yeah. I’m a life long Star Wars fan, and like most (I think), am jaded by the prequels (Eps 1 & 2, specifically), the nauseating Special Editions, and general over saturation of Star Wars ever since the prequels came out. Was anyone really clamoring for this? George had his chance to show us the Clone Wars, and instead we got 80 minutes of Jar Jar and some of the worst “romance” scenes ever put to film. Star Wars really needs to go away for awhile before I can really get excited about it again.
That being said, I’ll of course be seeing this in the theaters. (But I’d much rather see an animated feature that takes place after Return of the Jedi.)

“That being said, I’ll of course be seeing this in the theaters.”
Why? After admitting that Lucas and Star Wars hasn’t managed to produce anything of value in years, you’ll still turn over your hard earned money to see something you admit has virtually no appeal and is based on absolutely terrible source material.
It’s official: Star Wars fans have become the most pathetic level of nerds in the world.

Truth!

““That being said, I’ll of course be seeing this in the theaters.”
Why?”
An excellent question! I guess the reason is because I still love Star Wars and haven’t lost my faith that good Star Wars stories can still be told.

Agreed, kind of! I should point out that, while it’s not popular to admit around these parts, I thought Revenge of the Sith, while not perfect, was great. I also enjoyed the Clone Wars cartoons. So while I was disappointed in Eps 1 & 2 and hate the SEs, I don’t agree that nothing of quality has been produced. Plus, I don’t buy every DVD release of the movies like some folk, I don’t give a shit about Star Wars comics, novels and toys, and I haven’t played a Star Wars videogame since 6th grade. So Lucas hasn’t really received that much of my money, and I don’t really know that I qualify as a Star Wars nerd anymore; but the opportunity to see a new Star Wars story on the big screen is something I’d take my chances on. Does that make me pathetic (thanks Peter and Andrew)? Maybe, but I don’t really think so.

Sorry Dan, by that logic if someone keeps offering me candy bars made of manure, I should keep eating them blindly because every once in a while one’s actually made of chocolate. The fact that you rattled off a list of things that are wrong with the Star Wars franchise in the last decade before saying you’ll still pay to see this cartoon, based entirely on the worst Lucas has to offer, shows that you’re still drinking his Kool-Aid. Heck, even this post’s title indicates that you’re aware that Star Wars is a dead horse at this point, but you’re still happy to beat it!
Star Wars fans make absolutely no sense.

I just wanted to say that your analogy was pretty dumb. That is all.

In all seriousness, Pete — what you’re saying was kind of my point. Though I’d rather chalk up Star Wars’ hold on a generation to one of the universe’s unexplained mysteries, rather than get all worked up about it like yourself.

Pretty dumb, or pretty dung?

Both!

I promise, I’m not worked up. I’m just genuinely baffled by Star Wars aficionados and the whole “battered fan syndrome” that I see them willfully suffering through. When I came across your post today, it just begged to have the question asked “Why do you keep going back to Lucas if he just keeps hurting you?” Your answer seems to indicate that for whatever reason, you have no choice in the matter because you’ve been raised on Star Wars. You say it’s a generational thing, but I’m guessing we’re not that far apart in age (I’m in my early 30s, saw the original trilogy in the theaters), and yet we seem to be miles apart on this particular topic.
In summary, I guess I was just curious and wanted an honest, hopefully insightful answer. I wish you could have provided one.

Gotta say, I don;t get it either.

Hey Peter, well said — I guess it’s just hard to articulate, but the crux of it is, I still have a love for Star Wars, that’s all. It’s kind of what I meant when I said, “Of course I’ll be seeing it.” I’m jaded, but not jaded to the point that I’ve written it off completely.

Wait…prequels? Special Editions? Did something come out after the third Star Wars movie? I don’t know what you guys are talking about.

At least wait for reviews. If it blows chunky monkey, then you’re only fueling the problem while you could have spent your money on something worthwhile and needs the support.
