Anne Rice Undead Again

It seems that Anne Rice’s vow to never write another vampire story again after she found God a few years ago…wasn’t what she really meant. The writer just announced yet another Lestat book is on the way.
“One more book.” Those are the words Anne Rice fans have been dying to hear about the Vampire Chronicles ever since her shocking — and dismaying to many of his followers — turn to religious writing. Long seen as a committed atheist, four years ago the best-selling author drove a stake through the hearts of her followers when she vowed to abandon her sinister stories and instead write only of the Lord.
Turns out, vampires aren’t that easy to kill. In an interview with TIME, the best-selling author of Interview with the Vampire and The Queen of the Damned has revealed that she plans to write one last book about Lestat, the feared yet beloved blood-sucking main character in her gothic novel series. “When I published my first book about the Lord I said I would never write about those characters again,” Rice acknowledged. “But I have one more book that I would really like to write. It will be a story that I need to tell.”
Upon returning to the church after a more than three-decade absence, the author in 2005 dramatically and publicly declared that she would never again return to writing about vampires. Said Rice in an interview with Christianity Today: “I would never go back, not even if they say you will be financially ruined. I would be a fool for all eternity to turn my back on God like that.”
Do all that many people really care about this anymore? I mean, I read the original Lestat books back in the day, but that was mainly in a useless attempt at scoring with hot artsy chicks in college.
EDIT: Looks like Anne Rice dropped in by way of the comments section below with something to say about “fan” reaction.

Just like Thomas Harris (Hannibal) and George Lucas (Eps. 1-3) before her, the lure of the enticing sequel dollars was too much to resist for the former goth god known as Anne Rice to break her word. This press release basically says “I’m wriitng this book to help support the lifestyle that I was accustomed to when I was insanely popular.” Not that I was a fan of her work but I find it funny when people try to justify their reasonings for going back to the well to try to reclaim some lost glory. I think the reason for this new book falls squarely on the head of Tom Cruise and Scientology.

Most authors wouldn’t bother to respond to material like this, but I’m really wondering: why do you people write about me at all? If you don’t read the books, or think they’re good, why take time out for viciousness? Is it like your morning coffee? — For the record, presuming there is one, I make the same amount for my books whether they are about Jesus Christ or whether they are about vampires. Money has nothing to do with my decision to write a book. I was saved from that dilemma years ago by the simple fact that people buy the books when I write them. — Do try to understand: writers don’t do what they do for money. The big secret our agents never reveal is that almost all of us would write for nothing. — However, please do tell me, why bother to say something ugly and inaccurate and cynical about somebody whose books you don’t read? I don’t get it. Is this just the internet making people psychotic? What gets into you guys? I have a sneaking suspicion you’re a pack of burnt cowards. But I honestly don’t know. Thank you for reading this. I wish you well. Anne Rice, Rancho Mirage, California.

If she has a story to tell, awesome, and I’m sure her fans are really happy about it. I seriously doubt she needs the money, just like I seriously doubt George Lucas needed the money.

Just like I seriously doubt that was Anne Rice.

Whether it’s Anne Rice or no, she/he has a point.

I don’t have any stake in this (no pun intended); but, for the record: When an author vows that they will no longer write something for MORAL reasons, and then turns around and writes more of it, people will quite naturally be suspicous.(And to be fair to Ms. Rice-that Jesus book was a pretty big seller, so money’s probably not the real motivator here).

I’m more interested in how she found Jesus without going to jail.

I imagine Ms Rice is writing one more Lestat novel, because she’s sick and tired of seeing the countless 5th rate rip offs of her work that litter the fantasy section, month in, month out, and feels she can do better.

More importantly, are you Geoff Johns?

No. I’m Taylor Johns.
