A single work encompassing every living species on earth (mammals, reptiles, fungus, bacteria, etc) has been attempted, but never accomplished. That may change with the advent of the heavily funded Encyclopedia of Life, which is committed to cataloging and describing all of our planet’s living thingies.

The site was launched today, and, if ever completed, will be one of the most important resources ever. The internet ftw…?
