Why I’m Digging “All Star Batman And Robin”
Author: Stephen Gerding

The idea That Batman would have Robin paint an entire house yellow, and then dip himself and Robin in yellow paint in order to et up a safe meeting with Green Lantern is just too goddamn funny. Forget about “Grapplnig Hook Batman” or “Submersible Winter Sale At Filene’s Basement Batman” - I want an ASB&RTBW “Dipped In Yellow” playset with “Total Tool Hal Jordan” action figure, complete with interactive sound elements.

I quit reading this after issue 3 or 4 — about, what, 5 years ago? I hear it is getting better and I have to admit I laughed when I saw this panel. Reminded me of the Grell GA/GL issue (issue 90 something) where Hal, Ollie, and Sinestro disguise themselves as clowns when they get stranded on an alien world. If Miller is trying to make it fun, I might have to spring for the hardcover. The first couple weren’t fun though - just stupid.

Maybe Bruce Lee is the yellow Batman in the panel!

Miller’s Batman stories always read best all in one sitting. The most recent issue was even more outrageous and awesome. This book really started being fun in the issue where Frank had Batman say “Goddamn” about 50 times in one issue.

Also, where All Star Superman is Grant Morrison’s love letter written in calligraphy on delicate stationery to Silver Age and other classic Superman mythos, All Star Batman seems to be Frank Miller’s “Thanks for the good time” written on a Post-It note left on the bathroom mirror.
And it’s definitely Year 2-3 in Frank Miller’s Batman universe. Read his other Batman stories. His Batman was always a crazy asshole.
