Even if this is fake, it’s amazing:
DR PEPPER WILL GIVE EVERYONE* IN AMERICA A FREE SODA IF AXL ROSE RELEASES NEW GUNS N’ ROSES ALBUM, CHINESE DEMOCRACY, IN 2008
*Guitarists Slash and Buckethead Will Not Be Eligible For Free Soda
PLANO, Texas (March 26, 2008) – Tired of a world in which Americans idolize wannabe singers and musicals about high schoolers pass as rock ‘n roll music, Dr Pepper is encouraging (ok, begging) Axl Rose to finally release his 17-year-in-the-making belabored masterpiece, Chinese Democracy, in 2008.
In an unprecedented show of solidarity with Axl, everyone in America, except estranged GNR guitarists Slash and Buckethead, will receive a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships some time — anytime! — in 2008. Dr Pepper supports Axl, and fully understands that sometimes you have to make it through the jungle before you get it right.
“It took a little patience to perfect Dr Pepper’s special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love,” said Jaxie Alt, director of marketing for Dr Pepper. “So we completely understand and empathize with Axl’s quest for perfection – for something more than the average album. We know once it’s released, people will refer to it as “Dr Pepper for the ears” because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds - an instant classic.”

WTF?!?! Did they ever listen to the so-called leaked demos? Someone over at Schweppes must really standing a little too close to the soda fumes.
The only thing that will be instantly classic about “Chinese Democracy” is how out-of-touch with today’s musical landscape Axl Rose truly is.

I’ll tell you man, I hope “Chinese Democracy” is never ever released. It is so much more amazing and perfect as an unheard, secretive, epic record than the final product ever could be.

I agree. Chinese Democracy is also becoming more and more like the last great unfinished record of our time. Really, has there been another magnus opus that never saw the life of day even after almost 10 years of missed deadlines and cancelled tour dates?

The next Boston and Peter Gabriel records…?

There’s no chance of a Boston CD now. Gabriel, at least, doesn’t keep promising the moon just to keep the dogs that hound him about when the CD will be released at bay.
In the past, I would’ve said older groups like The Eagles or the Pixies or maybe newer ones like Rage Against The Machine or Stone Temple Pilots before the lure of easy money off of reunion CDs and subsequent reunion tours became the norm rather than the exception in today’s music scene.
Maybe Husker Du or the Replacements?
