So, last weekend I’m in the process of cleaning the garage again, and I finally get around to putting up a Craigslist posting to try to dump 3-4 longboxes of comics. They’re a mix of all kinds of titles from the last 20-25 years, not worth a damn to anyone looking to make money on them, so I’m literally giving them away. Here’s what I posted:

I’m clearing out my garage and have 3 long boxes of miscellaneous comics from the 80s, 90s and some stuff from the early aughts. You won’t find any hidden treasures to flip on ebay, but there’s enough stuff here to keep you occupied reading throughout the summer. Just email me if you’re interested and we’ll set up a time for you to come by and lessen the complaints I hear from The Wife™ about “too much clutter” in the garage.

The listing lasted online for about 20 minutes before I had to add an edit letting people know they were claimed, and another ten before I just had to delete the listing entirely due to too many emails coming in. In the 30 minutes it was visible to the public, I received over two dozen requests for the damn things.

Thankfully, the vast majority of the emails regarding the books were relatively polite, with just a couple kinda obnoxiously nerdy responses. Ultimately, they found their way into the hands of a father of two boys, aged 11 and 15, so they should be properly appreciated. I do wish I had some more for the guy that lost his collection in a fire, or the teacher looking to get his inner city students to read more, but there’s always the inevitable next listing for that. Ultimately, I’m just glad I was able to get rid of the damn things so quickly and easily - definitely a solid alternative to throwing them in the trash or wasting time selling and shipping them on ebay.
