Lionsgate has released three brand new teaser posters for “The Spirit” and, while pretty nifty, I’m afraid they feel a little too “Frank Miller’s ‘The Spirit’” rather than “Will Eisner’s ‘The Spirit.’” Anyone else getting that vibe? Anyone?

WTF??? Sin Spirit?
Poor Eisner, spinning in his grave. Have some respect, Frankie. You killed Batman. leave the Spirit alone!

Miller’s various comments (such as referring to Ebony as always having been a bad character, or affirming that the movie will be “scarier than people expect”) make it clear that he isn’t going to treat Eisner with the same respect he himself has demanded from the makers of SIN CITY and 300. Ego is a wonderful thing to have, isn’t it Frank?

Frank Miller’s Spirit = Sin City 2

Yeah, it’s Frank Miller’s The Spirit for sure. I had a really good feeling about Sin City and 300 and both films lived up to it. This one…I’m not feeling so good. I just don’t see Frank getting the Spirit — maybe he would’ve 25 years ago, but even then I don’t know. The Spirit isn’t Batman, and well, Frank can really only do Batman (see Miller’s Daredevil aka Frank Does Matt Murdock as Batman)

I disagree- Miller can’t even do Batman. And I don’t mean that as a bash on his current version- even DKR and YEAR ONE are very much Miller’s take on the strip, and not traditional Batman at all.

I guess it depends what your traditional is. Miller’s Batman isn’t David Reed’s or Denny O’Neil’s, but it’s close to Steve Englehart’s. I liked Miller’s Batman - I just really wish everybody else’s Batman since hadn’t tried to be it. Alan Grant is the only exception that readily springs to mind - he did Alan Grant’s Batman! I must confess I’m not a regular reader of the strip (my last issue was #595), but I’ve seen a few versions. I can’t believe I haven’t bought an issue of Batman in 7 years. Wow.

Wow. You both got all this from looking at a movie poster? You must have movie-going powers beyond those of mortal men.
