WTF Dept: Liz Phair — Novelist?

In a New York Times piece on Dean Wareham’s new memoir, former 90s indie rock pin-up Liz Phair revealed that she’s writing a novel. Huh.
I will say, on the record, that Phair’s early aughts move from worshipped low-fi Matador Records queen (the monumental “Exile In Guyville” was distributed to every female college student from 1993-1996) to slick, Matrix-produced top 40 hottie is one of the most spectacular and fascinating music career switcharoos/sell-outs I’ve ever witnessed.

Liz admitted that the sell out was due to having a child and wanting money and stability for that child. That’s a better reason than selling out to get laid.
As for her writing a novel. Why not, she’s not only a singer but a writer of lyrics. So why not. And hell, ever her pop stuff was better than most and she snuck in a subversive line or two in them that made long time fans still feel they were included.
