This looks shitty.

It doesn’t look like the comic does it? I thought this was an ode to Eisner? I guess the studios had some say in pushing it to be more realistic and in tune with today.
I don’t like the all-black outfit. It makes sense but takes away all the charm of the blue outfit. I also thought Denny Colt was a bit bulkier. This guy will get his head taken off in those crazy torture sequences.
At least I will still have Sam Jones!
(Wow couldn’t find it on the YouTube)

Do you mean Flash Gordon Sam Jones?

I had the exact same question…

Kind of hard to say that this looks good or bad at this point - all that green screen’s actually convinced me that there may be something worth watching in production after all.

You know, although it obviously didn’t look like EISNER, these photos did seem somehow familiar…some recognisable influence at work. Finally, it came to me:JOEL SCHUMACHER. (I’m dead serious here; it’s the look of The Octopus that convinces me…)

Doc, I see that. Sadly, I see that.

Usually i keep a positive tone with things, especially more than other nerds. But I was surprised when I found out Frank Miller is directing this. Didn’t Frank Miller stop being cool a long time ago, and also lose his mind when he started putting out All Star Batman & Robin.
Why didn’t they attach a good, established director to do this movie.

To be honest I haven’t liked anything I have seen about this movie & it’s really sad because Will Eisner is a genius! His SPIRIT comic is amazing & a special part of comic book history. It looks like Frank Miller is garbling it up…that’s very sad. Let’s just hope the actual movie is better!

Wow. How did I miss these. Well, this is clearly Miller’s tale om the Spirit. Personally, I’d rather seen something less.. well.. Miller. Couldn’t they had just done Sin City 2 and let some other fan like Cooke’s version or even Brad Bird take on Eisner.
I love Sin City, but it’s not The Spirit. The lack of color of The Spirit’s coat saddens me. He might as well be The Green Hornet. Unless somehow they change it in post, I don’t get it.
Eisner and Miller were friends. There’s a book that’s a transcript of the two talking to each other and it’s brilliant. I’m torn. Because this looks like an awesome Frank Miller movie. It just doesn’t sound like anything I know of Eisner’s character.

T-unit: Yes, Sam Jones who played Flash Gordon (and the short lived TV series Highwayman) played Denny Colt/The Spirit in a TV movie that also starred the Bajoran girl from DS9 (Nina Vistor?). In that so-so movie, Sam wore the traditional blue suit, and blue mask/hat and it looked really cool and he was big and beefy as seen in Flash Gordon etc.
I really think Frank will definitely not screw this up and no matter what it looks like here, the Eisner essence will be intact as we all know he treats that stuff as gospel. But wished he would “practice” more on his own stuff (why didn’t he make Hard Boiled first) before jumping in too soon on Eisner’s character and “potentially” screwing it up.
I think its a crapshoot right now - it’ll either be a sub-par Sin City or it will be so quirky it works like magic.
Drmedula - instead of Schumacher I see the 60’s Batman show come through in these stills…the gypsy dancer, the henchmen with the names on the shirt, the famous guest stars…
But as always, I hold final comment until I see the trailer - not sure why these were released - I guess for the comment sections to fill out on sites like these…better bad buzz than no buzz.

Seeing the face of the Octopus doesn’t really seem like gospel…
