NYCC - Day Two!

Just got back from Day Two of the New York Comic Con, or as sane people like to call it, Hell On Earth. Yesterday was great — a manageable crowd, deals on cool stuff everywhere, and lots of creators on hand to meet without having to wait in-line. Today, as has been the case the last couple of years, the crowd was $%#&ing huge, making it near impossible to walk more than a few feet without getting stuck between one guy lugging around a handtruck filled with stacked comic boxes and a mom who for some reason brought her kid in a stroller to this thing. Still though, a fun time overall. Check out lots o’ photos after the jump.
Crowdy fun.
This was the “Make Yourself Feel Like a Giant” booth.
See Steve McNiven.
See Steve McNiven not sketch anything.
The fine folks of The Sentinels.
Best Heath Ledger-Joker of the show.
But this was the creepiest Joker.
This is what Mark Texeria looks like.
Blue Beetle?
A deadly game of Magic. Only the winner walked away alive!
Aw, see? Emma and Jean do get along, even though Scott was psyche-banging Emma while Jean was still alive.
The awesome Hal Jordan-Green Lantern from the DC Universe line.
Sad.
Awesome.
This is how the world should end: Godzilla leading an army of Japanese robots and destroying everything.
Is this a MUSCLE dude? I don’t know.
Okay, now I own some pretty niche, geeky shit. But why anyone would want to have this in their house so they can…look at it…is beyond me.
NECA, or The Best Toy Company Around, shows off a 12-inch Raph.
The black and white TMNT variants from NECA.
Gamers got to try out Metal Gear Online at the Konami booth.
Some more Bat-villains strike a pose.
Mezco’s insanely huge Hellboy.

Hi,
I was the Heath-Joker at the comic con, thanks for the compliments! I was wondering would you happen to have a hi-res version of that pic? ok if not.
Thanks!

Jeez - its huge! I thought it was like Wondercon - obviously NY is the place to be for comics!
LA needs a big size con like this…say in the early Winter…so there are enough big city cons throughout the year.
Thanks to NYCC we have April big time announcements that usually were held until SDCC.
I cannot see this type of big con ending anytime in the next 10 years…even if comic movies drop off - the game world will keep merging geeks together.
Yay!

It’s huge in popularity, yes, though the cram-a-thon that NYCC has become is really proof that NYC needs a bigger convention center.

“a mom who for some reason brought her kid in a stroller to this thing.”
Not sure what this means - we took Sienna to the SDCC when she was 9 months old and even then she enjoyed herself. Loved the sounds and bright colors, lasted a good 7 hours at the show with a nice nap around the halfway point.

It just means it probably wasn\’t the best place to bring a baby + stroller when there\’s hardly any room to walk. Not really safe for the kid, and it made things extra crowded for everyone else. I\’m sure in a saner setting it would be totally fine.

Yeah man, I’m sure parents have a kid’s best interests in mind and unfortunately Saturday is a great time for parents to bring kids (although Friday I saw a bunch of folks with strollers and it was no prob whatsoever) — but if you have a kid in a stroller when this thing is at its most crowded, you’re just asking for a headache. Seriously, you can’t even deal with it on your own. There’s just so many people it’s nuts.

Unless the woman was acting the ass, I fail to see how having a kid in a stroller is any worse than some 250 pound guy in a Stormtrooper costume (with blaster rifle) standing in the center of a crowded aisle. If she was an ass, that’s on the woman, not the fact she had a stroller and wanted to take her kid out to a place she felt was family friendly.
We hit the SDCC with Sienna on Saturday, and had no problems we wouldn’t have were we strollerless and not a single issue or complaint from anyone around us. We’ll be doing the same again this summer without blinking.

Christ, dude. Relax. I’m not questioning your parenting skillz.

I was there and some Mom with a stroller not paying attention ran over my foot!!! If you are going to make it a pain for everyone to get around the least you could do is pay attention when your strolling around!!! Or how about this….carry your kid and get some exercise?

I like babies (if they’re cute) just as much as the next person but I think it’s a little irresponsible to bring a kid to a comic convention as crowded as this one. I’m not going to bring up babies at movies, that’s a whole ‘nother post.

I find it funny that for all the stuff Dan posted here, you harp on one pretty meaningless comment. Jesus, there’s also a war going on too.

Thanks for the pics! I can’t wait until SDCC!
