I think you’re actually right on the money, money-wise. It’s been selling out in LA for a few days already. Movies typically do well in a recession (Yay!, Bushenomics!)It’s got great reviews thus far. I think it’s going to do surprisingly well.

I think the movie will easily pull 100 mill. This movie is ridiculously good, I saw it at the advance release.

Chimera, I’m sure it is (I can’t wait) but we’re tlking just opening weekend.
Spidey 3 made 15M opening weekend. Episode 3 made 108M. It’s a steep hill.

The Four movies both opened up around 56 million for opening weekend. Spider-man 3 opened at 151 million. This is the first summer blockbuster and feel comfortable with around 100 million opening weekend. It is rated 94% at Rottentomatoes, that is almost unheard of for this type of movie. Word of mouth should be hot too, especially about the post credits goodness.
Marvel’s first totally in-house movie looks like it will clean up.

typo on my part. It was supposed to be 151M for Spidey 3

I’ve now seen the film and have to say “awesome”. That said easily $100MM for the weekend. No records broken, but a great weekend for Marvel’s first pic.

Holy god that was awesome. I really hope it breaks 100M.

This is easily the best Marvel film after Spider-man and Spider-man 2, at least in my book. It was awesome and the after the credits bit was the icing on the icing of the cake =)

I think it’s the best Marvel film after X2. I actually think it was better than Spider-Man 1. And I love the first Spidey!

better if not just as good as x2 and spidey 1 & 2. i thinks it takes whats good with dc movies and whats good with marvel movies and finds a good balance.

Sunday morning and Box Office Mojo is already estimating over $100 from the first couple of days. Let’s see what Sunday reaps. Looks like Tony’s repulsor blasts might take out the old web head and his organic shooters.

Box Office Mojo (see T Unit’s link above) has it at $104MM before Sunday’s take. An estimated 8th fastest to $100MM. Great numbers that should guarantee a sequel.
I’d place this in the top five of comic book movies. I don’t like to rank something fully until I’ve seen it a few times and have let it sink in.

I think I place it right below X2 and Batman Begins as far as best comic book movies go. Lots of fun.
