Quick: what’s the 2008 summer movie people care the least about? If you answered Meet Dave, you win! But if you said The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, there is a consolation prize because you’d be oh-so-almost right.
Directed by Rob Cohen — who sometimes makes good crap and often makes true crap — this third film in the Mummy series does have the huge added bonuses of Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, two of the most charismatic and enduring stars of Hong Kong cinema’s recent golden age.
I dunno about running out to check this in the theater, but like the other Mummy movies, I’m sure this’ll one day be a solid rainy weekend afternoon entertainment to keep the kids quiet, thereby allowing you to cat nap during the boring parts. I mean that as a legitimate compliment…I think…

I like the Mummy movies, lots of action, some funy parts, and nice special effects. Solid entertainment compared to some of the stuff that makes it to the big screens. I will most likely see this when it comes out in the theaters.
Exactly – The Mummy flicks pretty much know that they’re meant to be a fun, flashy and temporary escape from the daily deal. I kinda hope I can make it to the theaters for this one, too1
I’ve always had a soft spot for Brendan Fraser. He’s someone who seems like, with his classic Hollywood face, generally okay acting, and kinda goofy charm, he should have been much bigger than he is. He’s pretty much always my favorite part of the movies he’s in. Adding Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh makes it that much better. It might be totally awful, but I’ll still at least rent it.
