I knew it! I passed after being royalled screwed on Speed Racer and didn’t want to be let down again so soon.
We’ve come to far as fanboys since 1989 - if Batman Begins was done in the same style as Batman Returns it will also be laughable.
I hope we can all put to rest that Lucas is just past his prime? He is the John Byrne of movies. His revisiting of the Clone Wars in August is like Byrne doing a new series of what else happened to Jean Grey between X-Men 137 and X-Factor 1.

Personally, I’d compare it to NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN- a questionable return to a beloved character, flawed, but ultimately justifiable because it’s still better than it’s imitators….
It was really a mess…I didn’t out and out hate it, because I think it did have some decent moments, but when the credits started to roll I was pretty shocked.
DB: Man, Crystal Skull was such a mess. It was so lazy/uninspired/rote. It was like they made it in 10 minutes for the Sci-Fi Channel. I kind of wish Spielberg handed off the directorial reigns because it felt like he didn’t want to have anything to do with it. There was one good scene — the A-bomb test — and it had nothing to do with anything.
T Unit, I’ll bow to the crowd’s opinion on the ‘99 MUMMY- although as a classic horror buff, I can’t quite embrace it( because I know about the project going through the hands of Clive Barker, Joe Dante, AND George Romero before it ended up in the hands of Sommers!). But, with all of it’s flaws, CRSTAL SKULL is still WAY better than MUMMY RETURNS!
Just want to recommend everyone who’s seen it and didn’t like it to listen to the latest episode (May 27) of The Best Show on WFMU with Tom Scharpling, about 50 minutes in. Pretty funny stuff:
I blame Shia Labuff (yea i know thats not how you spell it, im not wasting my time looking up the correct spelling, I prefer to waste my time explaining why i don’t waste time)
Agreed. What the hell is wrong with Spielberg? You can’t make a blockbuster and a wannabe-pseudo-artistic movie at the same time. You can’t please the families and then throw in your obligatory what-is-the-meaning-of-life theme. Monkeys for the kiddos. Throw in aliens at the end for the thinkers. Spielberg, enough with the aliens! Stupid Spielberg and Lucas ruining our childhood memories. (grumble grumble)

Move forward I say.

Dan, never mind. I just saw it.
I get it.
And Lucas, John Byrne of movies? I love you.

Lucas — I have to admit, I loved Speed Racer.

drmedula, the Mummy could be considered an imitator, and it was much better than this steaming pile.

Agreed with Tune-it. “National Treasure” had more thought and effort behind it than “Crystal Skull.”

Tales of the Gold Monkey vs. Talespin…DISCUSS!!

I’d like to thank Lucas, Spielberg and Ford for spending $185 M on a fan film. That has to be a record.
