Just re-read a classic — Emperor Doom.
Along with most of the Lee/Kirby FF, a few Byrne FF, and “Triumph and Torment”, Emperor Doom kicks all kinds of ass. The 2 best scenes:
(1) Where DOOM says (more or less) “My one greatest failing; I always surround myself with imbeciles”
(2) When the Purple Man (whatever happened to him?) starts to threaten and belittle DOOM and the good Doctor removes his mask (which, was, of course, aiding in protecting him from the Purple Man’s powers) and walks right up to ole’ Purple. The will of DOOM is so strong that the Purple Man’s power — which had turned Captain America, the Hulk, Tony Stark, Hawkeye, Power Man into mindless slaves — has NO EFFECT ON DOOM!
That whole page could be a Monday Affirmation.

Actually, Purple Man had a pretty cool update in Bendis’ ALIAS a few years back, Murr, and then popped up again to mess with the Thunderbolts and again to escape to Canada during Civil War! Now he’s in NYC again, I think, with The Hood’s crew.
