EW Names Graphic Novels In List Of “New Classic” Books

Ah, lists. Their whole existence centers around people disagreeing with them. Maybe that’s why they’re so popular.
So, predictably, don’t even get me started on the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, which deems to name the New Classics of our culture: the 100 best movies, music, books, tv, etc of the last 25 years. The list of albums especially (except #1 is a great call) is fairly atrocious.
But, in the issue’s list of books they included a whole bunch of graphic novels 100% worthy of inclusion, and that’s really pretty neat. Check it out:
#7 MAUS - Art Spiegelman
#13 WATCHMEN - Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons
#37 PERSEPOLIS - Marjane Satrapi
#46 SANDMAN - Neil Gaiman/various artists
#54 JIMMY CORRIGAN - Chris Ware
#68 FUN HOME - Alison Bechdel
Personally (you knew this was coming!) I would move Bechdel and Ware above Persepolis, but really, if you wanted to start some sort of comic book/graphic novel canon, this is a near-perfect foundation.
This same section of the issue also includes a top 10 from Neil Gaiman and a fun short comic from Alison Bechdel about reading what you’re “supposed to” as opposed to what you “want to.” It’s on-stands now.

Oh come on! Persepolis above Sandman? Why is Persepolis even on the list, it was so boring, i don’t understand the hype. And Watchmen is way better than Maus. It’s good that they’ve finally recognised comics but they’ve got it slightly wrong.
