Andrew and I may be a little off on our Dark Knight predictions after all, but can you blame us really? After all, the Batfilms historically open in the mid $40M range with Begins topping out at $73M with a Thursday opening and a grand total of $205M. It really is kind of insane (and a little unsettling) to think that the admittedly excellent viral marketing combined with the death of Heath Ledger is worth an extra $30-50M, but that may be exactly what’s going on.
Deadline Hollywood Daily’s saying that WB is predicting $90M in house, but DHD thinks the real number’s going to come in around $130M. Slashfilm is thinking even bigger.
Me, the more I think about it, the more I believe that Pineapple Express is gonna be the biggest movie evar.

Remember, the Keaton BATMAN came out nearly 20 years ago- back before the obsessive “opening weekend” thing had really taken over(at the time, it was considered suprising when the film was released on video a mere 5 months after it opened in theatres- the usual was 6-8 months for a big hit). Adjust for inflation and the escalating hype we have these days, and $130,000,000 doesn’t sound too farfetched… although I’m personally having trouble working up enthusiasm enough to fight crowds and see this.I’ll wait…
I told you. This damn movie is going to break a BILLION. Watch. By Halloween. I already bet you a dollar, Stephen. If I’m wrong, I’ll mail it to you. But if I’m right…
Pineapple Express? Really? I mean, I’m sure it’ll make a bunch of money, but it’s not even going to get close to The Dark Knight.
This movie will be the Joker, and all other movies this year will be Barbara Gordon.
That’s right. Rape.
