Spirit Film Site Gets All Fancyville Up In This Mess

One of the most aggressively (and successfully) online marketed films in recent memory has to be Frank Miller’s The Spirit, which bows in theaters this Christmas and is sure to consternate Will Eisner die hards everywhere.

Either way, the movie has a spiffy new website that includes a whole bunch of goodies, including a somewhat random co-promotion with the EMA…? Check it out.

And while I’m at it, hey DC, how about a 2nd Best of the Spirit volume? The first one was actually really well done. Thanks.

OK my 2 cents on this.

I grew up with Miller on Daredevil, loved Ronin and Dark Knight Returns. Hard Boiled was interesting and it took me awhile to get into his All-Star Batman but I think its neat now.

Sin City as a comic was great in its design and pacing and I would venture as far to say this was the first true American take at manga (B&W, pacing, format)

The film was OK, sometimes I do agree with Alan Moore on leaving things the way they are…what I have seen of The Spirit movie (posters and 2 trailers) tells me this is nothing like Will Eisner’s amazing series, of course if it were a direct translation maybe only your grandfather would go see it…so taking in that Miller is an Eiser-Disciple, I will give him that the essence of the character is there since the dead cop returned to life to exact revenge has been done oh so many times before.

So what to expect from The Spirit – hopefully a good story, but with the source material probably not that original, special effects: why? its not sci-fi, so it must be the way the story is presented like Sin City. The thing that must have green-lit this is the great line-up of female stars in it and Sam Jackson.

Anticipation factor currently is at a 6 out of 10.

Many have referred to this as another Sky Captain and everything we’ve seen so far says it is. I just can’t see another trailer showing anything else that would get me too excited about it.

I think the stuff I saw for Hellboy 2 got me excited even though I hated the first one.

On another note while typing the above – I hope WB gets their DC shit together…The Spirit if it bombs will kill a Spectre movie for a few years which in the right hands could be a freaking cool idea (dead cop come back to life to exact revenge on evil) …ditto on Deadman and a bunch of the return-to-life DC characters.

take Geoff Johns off the comics and sit in down in Hollywood to outline DC’s movie plans.
