iTunes is currently offering a free download of the new Watchmen “Motion Comic” — clocking in at a generous 25 minutes — via a link at the iTunes store. Free stuff, especially when it involves Watchmen, is AWESOME, so head over there now.
Special thanks to KFR Super Poster John Galt for the tip. John, care to write some impressions in the comments?

It’s actually a good way to review Watchmen if you haven’t read it in awhile. Nothing will beat reading the original however. The voice acting is very good. The guy doing Rosarch has a great take on the voice. The animation remindes me of the marvel cartoons of the 60’s where they take a static panel and move a few details, however with Watchmen that seems ok. I’m impressed that I tunes gave it out for free. I’m sure however that we’ll have to pay for any later instalments, as the saying goes the first one’s free kid.

I’d have to agree with Alan. It reminds me very much of the early marvel cartoon-comics that I saw in syndication, only with better color and voice acting.
I was pretty impressed with some of the “shots” they did, like the initial pan up from the street where the Comedian’s body landed to his high-rise penthouse. The distance and the perspective come across perfectly! I’m very curious (as a graphic arts geek) to know the techniques they used and if the comic was their only source material.
Overall, I’d say they captured the mood very nicely and the motion, such as it is, was a pretty cool take on the book. If you haven’t read Watchmen before, I wouldn’t start with this but it’s a lot of fun if you’re already familiar with the story.
According to this Superherohyp.com article, the full Watchmen motion comic will indeed cost a few bucks. There are also other books in the works. Batman: Mad Love is supposedly out now on Xbox Live and Verizon Vcast so I’m SOL on both of those. Hopefully these will pick up and be more widely available to all audiences.
