Amazon Blu-Ray Deal Alert

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn [Blu-ray]For those of you that are members of Blu-Ray capable households, Amazon’s buy 2 get one free deal might be of interest to you.

If I had a PS3 in my immediate future, I’d be sorely tempted by a few of the titles on the list - that 5 disc Blade Runner set looks like it brings the goods, for one, and Blue Planet has to look absolutely incredible in hi-def. In order to make it feel right, though, I’d probably end up blowing my free movie on the same title that was my first DVD back in the day and end up with the remastered Fifth Element.

Taking a cue from South Park, perhaps, Adult Swim has just posted “Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon The Movie Film For Theaters” in it’s entirety. If you missed it in theaters, on DVD or whatever, now’s your chance to watch AWESOMENESS. Even if you’re not an ATHF fan, the pre-show and opening credits alone are worth your time and bandwidth.

Power Records!

Everyone say “Thank you!” to KFR reader John Galt for giving us the heads up on this most excellent blog about all the classic Power Records albums, both superhero and non. There’s no cover art, but it looks like they have a good selection of links to downloadable mp3s. Looks like I’ll be burning a few CDs to play in the car for my kid, if only to break the monotony of hearing the Sesame Street Platinum album for the 3529th time. I think I’ll be starting with the album pictured above - I loved that damn Dragon-Men story when I was a kid!

Happy Post April Rickroll Day!

Author: Stephen Gerding April 2nd, 2008 1 Comment »

How many of you got Rickrolled yesterday? I did, twice - once through an email from a friend and later by YouTube. Not on YouTube, but by the actual YouTube company. Seems they got into the spirit of The Meme that Was Made For April Fools Day by linking all their featured videos on the main page to video of Mr. Astley. In celebration of what might become the biggest meme to date, NewTeeVee has traced the history of the Rickroll all the way back to it’s roots.

May 28, 2007: “Official” You’ve Been RickRoll’d! upload of Never Gonna Give You Up appears online, courtesy of YouTube user YouGotRickRolled. As of April 2008, it has reached nearly 9 million views.

June 15, 2007: Wigantoday.net declares that “the Astley backlash is beginning.” Rickrolling is thus officially here to stay.

The Complete South Park - Online And Free!

Author: Stephen Gerding March 25th, 2008 No Comments »

After years of crappy video clips on YouTube or other websites being circulated, South Park’s gone 100% digitally legit. The show’s official website is now offering the entire 12 seasons online for free viewing, plus various clips from the show are available for watching, emailing and embedding. Sweet.

It’s all still in beta, so there are a few bugs - most notably some bad links here and there, but overall it’s a pretty smooth experience and easy to figure out interface with a full screen viewing mode that’s surprisingly clean. Best of all, it’s cross-platform compatible. I’m watching an episode on my iMac right now with no problems.

Sony Launching Blu-Ray Profile 2.0 With A Couple Of Duds

Author: AF Duncan March 24th, 2008 6 Comments »

Somewhat annoyingly, “Profile 2.0″ is the next gen of Blu-Ray players and discs. What makes it better than current Blu-Ray (aka “Profile 1.0″)? Apparently fairly meaningless features like picture-in-picture and Internet access. The fun part is Profile 2.0 discs will only play on Profile 2.0 players, which aren’t even on the market yet. However, PS3s will be upgraded for Profile 2.0 through a firmware download, which is kind of neat.

Sony plans on launching this new, sure-to-be-confusing-and-frustrating-to-the-average-consumer technology, which Sony is calling BD-Live, on April 8 with two completely inexplicable titles: the critically panned “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” and the justifiably forgotten Schwarzenegger dud “The 6th Day.”

Sony’s two BD-Live titles each include exclusive downloadable theatrical and home video previews along with a FAQ about BD-Live functionality. “Walk Hard” includes three featurettes that star Bill Hader as Derek Stone, a historian and expert “Coxologist.” These featurettes are available only via the BD-Live download.

BD-Live titles also have the potential to enable a wide range of Web-based features, including ringtone and wallpaper downloads, peer-to-peer interactions, live virtual events and gaming.
