The Superest is basically a never ending Rock, Paper, Scissors game being held publically between two artists. The rules, according to the website, are:
Player 1 draws a character with a power. Player 2 then draws a character whose power cancels the power of that previous character. Repeat.
Most of the character leaps are pretty obvious, some make you think for a second, and a few seem pretty non-sequiterish, but they’re all pretty fun to look through.

This morning was the first I’d heard of Fanboy and Chum Chum, but apparently the just-greenlit Nickelodeon series has been very publicly in development for quite some time. Taking a quick look through these postings detailing the show’s developmental process on the Fredrator blog, I’m immediately looking forward to it. Looks like good, clean, superhero-y fun!

Nickelodeon has ordered 26 episodes of Fanboy and Chum Chum, a new CG animated comedy series spinning off from the upcoming Nicktoons Network anthology series Random! Cartoons, it was announced today by Brown Johnson, President, Animation for Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids & Family Group. Combining classic squash and stretch animation with CG technology, Fanboy and Chum Chum centers on a fearless, comic book-loving 10-year old named Fanboy and his best friend and trusty sidekick, Chum Chum, whose wide-eyed acceptance of the bizarre is the perfect complement to his friend’s hyper imagination. For Fanboy, there is nothing more normal than living life in tights and a cape, and the concept of an ordinary day is one where anything and everything can happen.
DC’s Overeactionary Censorship Train Rolls On

Rich has a special mid-week LitG up right now that looks a bit more closely at DC’s decision to pulp the latest issue of Action Comics because it may have appeared that good old Clark Kent was possibly enjoying a frosty malt beverage with his father on the cover. The new version of the issue makes it clear to everyone that Clark and Pa are merely throwing back some bottles of cold Soda Pop™, so the children are now safe to once again look up to the Man of Steel.
In further news, DC is now asking folks to return their issues of Batman Confidential #19 which featured several pages of a naked Batgirl tussling with a naked Catwoman in a room full of dozens of other naked people. Fret not - you’ll receive this new version that is much less offensive and more all-ages appropriate.

Dark Horizons had this to say about potential Avengers casting today:
Finally, “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria was seen leaving Marvel Comics head offices on Friday carrying a copy of “The Avengers” comic which has led to speculation that she’ll play Janet Van Dyne (aka. The Wasp) a founding member and eventual wife of ‘Ant-Man’ Hank Pym.
Not a bad choice at all, really. However, KFR’s better, more perfect one? Kate Beckinsale.

This redrawn page from FF #17 is a thing of beauty. I’d totally buy a hardcover collection of the entire Lee/Kirby run redone by Kochalka.
EDIT: It’s been pointed out that I need to work on my reading comprehension. This is page 17 of FF #9, actually. Still badass.

R&C: Quest for Booty — Better Than Tools Of Destruction…?

So, not sure if there are any other Ratchet & Clank fans in the audience, but man, I can’t help but love these games. In my wow-I’m-tired spare time, I just finished the latest in the series, the downloadable-for-$15 Quest for Booty. Got to say, I agree more with this guy than the lackluster ratings I’ve seen from more hardcore folks.
I see where those dudes are coming from — yes, it’s a short title with similar gameplay elements to the others. But here’s the thing: the publishers really showed up and made an effot when they could’ve gone half-assed and still collected their ducats. The voice acting and script are great and funny, the story/plot is surprising and has real urgency, and it looks phenomenal. I’d go as far as saying it might be a better all-around title than Tools of Destruction, which I felt took itself too seriously and just felt routine and boring. People just seemed to have a better time making Quest for Booty, strangely enough.
Fingers crossed for the next full installment in this great, underappreciated series, due next fall.

Craptactular Star Wars Happy Meal Toys

So, I took my daughter to McDonald’s the other day and hooked her up with her favorite Happy Meal (hamburger, white milk and apple dippers, hold the caramel sauce), and we got the crappiest toy I’ve seen in ages. I worked at McDonald’s back in the early 90s, so I’m more than familiar with the concept of not expecting a whole lot from Happy Meal toys, but this is just sad. Princess Leia - they decided that because my daughter’s a girl, she needed the Star Wars princess, I guess - Princess Leia’s head slapped on bobble-style to a random Star Wars spaceship. That’s the toy. Oh, it has a set of wheels on the bottom so you can attempt to push it along Hot Wheels style, but it really just falls over as soon as Carrie Fisher’s oversized dome starts bopping side to side.

These toys are so bad that my two year old, who has been entertained for hours on end by Happy Meal box in the past, played with this thing for 30 seconds and handed it to me with a “Here you go, Dad.”
