Wu-Tang Clan VS Hendrix = Killa Beez Experience

Author: Stephen Gerding March 12th, 2008 No Comments »

It’s been a while since we posted any mash-up links, but I came across a pretty sweet one the other day. The Killa Beez Experience crosses Wu Tang Clan vocals with Hendrix music and comes up with a sweet, sweet sound courtesy of Blame The Kid. The site also lets you sample the songs before downloading, which can be handy if you’re being frugal with your hard drive space. Be warned, however: the music start playing as soon as the page loads, so if you’re at work or in church, you may want to make sure you turn the speakers off before visiting.

Best Mashups Of 2007

Best of Bootie '07

DJ Adrian & the Mysterious D have published a collection of their picks for the best mash ups of 2007, including custom art for your iTunes or CD case. I’ve fallen out of the habit of searching out decent mash ups these last 12 months, so it’s nice to see someone else doing the legwork for me. They’ve included 21 tracks in the compilation, and there really isn’t a truly weak one among them with even the more pop-centric songs being interesting enough for me to not stop what I’m doing long enough to skip over them. That said, I think my favorite is probably the Party Ben mash, “Galvanize the Empire,” featuring the Chemical Brothers mixed with John Williams.

The entire album is online here in either downloadable zip format or via torrent.

Let it be known, this is probably not safe for all workplaces.

Goldigger + Beethoven’s 5th Video Mashup

This is pretty slick - someone came across an mp3 mash-up of Kanye West’s Goldigger mixed with Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and synced it up with the original Goldigger video. Tight!

RIAA Attacking Mash-Up Websites

Author: Stephen Gerding November 28th, 2005 1 Comment »

Well, ain’t this about a bitch? The RIAA, no longer content with going after middle aged mothers and senior citizens for filesharing violations, is now cracking down on websites that host mash-up mp3s. As an artist, I totally understand the desire to protect your art, but the RIAA steps all over everyone’s rights, even those artists who actually want their music to be free and available for things like this. As cliché as it sounds, the old copyright laws truly are walking antiques and need to be adjusted according to new tehcnological needs and abilities, if not eradicated entirely. When you look at debacles like Sony’s rootkit screwup, you know that these gestapo-esque tactics are completely counterproductive and can be outright harmful to the people they’re supposedly protecting.

Dean Gray presents American Edit

If you’re a Green Day fan - and even if you’re not, perhaps - you’ll want to check out “Dean Gray presents American Edit”, a mash up of the entire ‘American Idiot’ album. As expected for a full length LP mash up, it’s a little uneven, but on the whole it’s pleaantly listenable with a few of the hybrids standing out as particularly catchy. At the least, it’s worth downloading and slapping onto your iPod to come across during an extended listen on shuffle. [via]

Mash-Up: Milkshake Gadget

It may not be the most technically smooth mash-up you’ll ever hear, but there’s no denying that .mixing the Inspector Gadget theme song with Kelis’ “MILKSHAKE” is ridiculously fun. Instantly catchy and almost certain to bring a smile to your face as you head into the weekend.
