Marc Ecko Lands DC Comic License
Author: Stephen Gerding May 20th, 2009 No Comments »It was announced earlier this week that Marc Ecko’s line of clothing has managed to snag a DC Comics license. Here’s part of what they had to say about the deal:
“Both the Marc Ecko and the DC Comics brands resonate with an expansive and loyal fan base made up in large part by today’s youth culture,” said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President, Domestic Licensing and Worldwide Marketing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “Through this exclusive partnership, we are able to present trendsetting fashions to these fans at a level only Marc Ecko can attain.”
Translation: “These t-shirts will run you upwards of $40 a pop.”
On one hand, these will probably look pretty amazing. Ecko’s Marvel line of clothing from 4-5 years back was easily a high point in geek fashion, and I own a few of them to this day. Outside of Graffitti Designs, I’m not sure there’s ever been a clothing company who made super hero themed stuff that actually understood and respected the medium’s history more than Ecko, so I look forward to the potential of a nice, heavy duty shirt with a Bill Sienkiewicz’s Batman page unfolding across the front of it to match the Sienkiwicz Daredevil shirt I already have in my closet.
But man, those prices…
