Insanely Detailed Wall•E Case Mod

Author: Stephen Gerding July 1st, 2009 No Comments »

wallecasecomplete2Remember that Bender case mod that had the entire internet a-buzzing a few years back? Well, this Russian nerd totally one-ups it with an absolutely sick Wall-E case that’s just flat out beautiful.

Even better, the guy didn’t just throw up the final piece in a few different poses, though those pics are part of the appeal. No, he walks you through a step by step “Making Of…” presentation, starting with the first flat piece of metal with a few circles sketched out on it, to the machining of the parts, to the painting to the final piece. Of course, it’s in Russian, so you’ll have to either speak the language or have faith in an internet translator site in order to do more than drop your jaw in awe at the pictures.

Han Solo Encased In Guacamole-nite

Author: Stephen Gerding June 15th, 2009 No Comments »

guacsoloFile this under “How Did I Miss This?” – Apparently, the annual Guac Bowl was held back in February, and the hands down winner was….Guac Solo!

The next day, the clothes were still a little damp, but the warmth of the sun was definitely helping. While I waited, I started painting the frame, and I ran to the hardware store to pick up 6 paper towel holders to spray paint silver and add a little detail to the side panels. By the time I came back, Han was dry, and I finished the paint job.

Emily made the guac with 50(!) avocados, garlic, cilantro, salt, pepper, a little onion, and lots of lime. We spread it on, hoped it would stick, and, well… behold: Han Solo in Guaconite.

Bollywood Comes To Hulu

Author: Stephen Gerding May 8th, 2009 No Comments »

This is why the internet is so great. 20 years ago, hardly anyone in the US even knew about Bollywood, much less searched out their movies. Now, Hulu, the best TV/Movie site online, has inked a deal with Saavn, a Bollywood distribution company, to stream movies online.

Bollywood distrib Saavn has teamed up with Hulu to stream pics online, including “Sarkar,” one of many Indian adaptations of “The Godfather.”

For now there are five subtitled films available on Hulu besides 2005’s “Sarkar,” which stars Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan — “Hera pheri,” (2000) starring Akshay Kumar; 2004’s “Hulchul”; 2000’s Aishwarya Rai starrer “Dhaai akshar prem ke”; and 1992’s “Deewana.”

More films will be made available through the year.

Why Did The Hooker Cross The Road?

Author: Stephen Gerding April 3rd, 2009 No Comments »

Everyone loves a good minigame, right? Well, “Crank 2″ has a slew of them that have just been released, but while they’re entertaining, it’s difficult to say that they’re “good.” First problem is that the sound is cranked up pretty loud, and there’s no sign of a volume control. This is going to seriously limit the office gameplay and probably get more than a few people in dutch with their bosses.

The actual games themselves are pretty basic, made interesting only by the aforementioned cranked (HA!) soundtrack and the over the top sprite designs, which in at least one case seems to have been designed explicitly to piss people off. Specifically, Help the Hooker, a Frogger-like game in which you help Rita streetwalk across a busy LA surface road. While she gives the Invisible Man a non-stop lapdance.

Seriously.

Help the Hooker!

Touch the Granny, Not the Cop is a Pac-Man clone that’s actually hyper annoying, and Escape on a Moped is an extremely basic racing game with car jumping and speed boosts. None of them are really worth spending more than a minute or two on, unfortunately, but I expect that won’t stop someone, somewhere causing a stir over the Help the Hooker game. Which is probably exactly what it was designed to do in the first place.
