“The Marine” Trailer Online

John Cena - The MarineI dunno - looks like a pretty fun action flick to me. But then again, I thought that Kane’s horror movie looked like fun and by all accounts, it was utter ass. Still, Cena’s like the white version of The Rock with charisma to spare, so I’d imagine he’ll be able to pull this one off in a fun Saturday afternoon sort of way.

Dustin “Screech” Diamond Is Broke

Author: Stephen Gerding June 15th, 2006 9 Comments »

Dustin Diamond Is BrokeGod bless Dustin Diamond. The man gave my generation hours upon hours of enjoyment as Screech on the classic “Saved By The Bell,” and instead of letting his fame go to his head, the kid actually seemed to understand the joke that genetics played on him. His career since then has consisted of pretty much exactly what you’d expect from B-level child actors, without the seemingly standard armed robbery/drug problem/self prostitution scandal. Diamond continues to pop up in small roles here and there, was a professional wrestler for a short while, and gets his licks in by whipping Horseshack’s ass in celebrity boxing. Despite that shining resume, he’s apparently broke now, and is turning to the internet to help save himself from becoming homeless. For a mere $15, you can get your very own D-Shirt and Dustin will hopefully raise the $250,000 he needs to save his house from reposession. $20 gets you an autographed version, which shows just how realistic the man is about his celebrity. People less awesome than Screech ask for 4-5 times that much at Comic-Con.

Attack O’ The Wee Folk

Yes, it’s bizarre, yes it’s actually fairly idiotic, but dammit, using a leprechaun as a foreign object is the sort of inspired stupidity that crosses that threshold straight back into genius.

More “See No Evil” Hilarity

Author: Stephen Gerding May 3rd, 2006 No Comments »

The last two weeks have been amazing in regards to the WWE’s attempts to promote their upcoming horror flick, “See No Evil.” In addition to the repetitious behind the scenes clips - which still manage to make the movie look fun, at least - the wrestling part of the promotion has gone from laughable to hilarious. Last week, Kane attacked another wrestler and (in order to tie into his movie character’s penchant for eyeballs) tried to rip his eye out of his skull. Wertham would have loved it!

It just get’s better (worse) from there. I’ve uploaded a pair of clips so you can watch and enjoy the insanity for yourself. The second clip - Kane VS The Shirt - is a long one.

Stone Cold Steve Austin: Condemned

Author: Stephen Gerding April 21st, 2006 No Comments »

In addition to comics, toys and TV shows, I’m a wrestling geek as well. I admit it! My love for the stuff waxes and wanes, but I always end up back on board the wrestling train eventually. So it’s no surprise that I’ve been watching the WWE’s movie business with more than a little interest. With “See No Evil” due out shortly, and the Rock’s movie career well under way, I’m already looking forward to Stone Cold Steve Austin’s first flick, “The Condemned.” The plot’s your basic retelling of “The Greatest Game,” which should play to Austin’s abilities perfectly. Just look at the description and tell me this doesn’t sound like 1970’s movie gold!

The story revolves around a cop on death-row who is given a second chance when chosen to compete on a deadly reality show. Pursued by ruthless killers, his survival and the key to his freedom depend on him surviving long enough to take down the one person responsible for putting him behind bars.

What’s really got me excited, however, is the presence of Louis “El Cid” Guizman himself on the cast! A legitimate Hollywood name involved in a WWE produced film? Awesome!

Slightly less of a sure thing - HHH’s leading man debut in “Jornada del Muerte.” The description also conjures up images of old-school 70s flicks, but I’m not sure the world wants to see HHH as anything but a Conan-esque character.

A modern-day Western where gangs, drug trafficking and broken codes of honor rule.

WWE Craps Up “See No Evil” Promotion

Author: Stephen Gerding April 19th, 2006 2 Comments »

Laugh if you will, but the trailers for the upcoming WWE/Lions Gate horror flick, “See No Evil” have been pretty decent. Of all the wrestlers to plug into the role of a mass murdering psychopath, Glen Jacobs‘ Kane certainly makes the most sense, and judging by the previews, he’s got the on-screen presence to pull it off if the script is even halfway entertaining. The movie certainly has a lot going for it - Lions Gate has had recent success in the horror genre with the Saw franchise, the character’s name has frnachise written all over it (Jacob Goodnight) and the audience doesn’t seem to be diminishing as far as slasher flicks go.

Of course, the WWE (aka Vince McMahon) just can’t leave well enough alone. Rather than just run promos for the movie during Raw and Smackdown, with perhaps an interview here and there, or a behind the scenes look at their potential movie franchise, they’ve decided to take the route of making the character of Kane go crazy during the show. So far viewers have been treated to Kane hearing voices in his head (which are helpfully piped over the airwaves), turning on his tag team partner, and linking the movie’s opening date to some mysterious, painful day in Kane’s past.

It’s not gonna hurt the movie’s box office or turn anyone off to it, I don’t think, but it is funny in a painfully bad sort of way. I’ll be adding more clips as the WWE airs them - they’re too amusingly terrible to ignore.

Trailer 1, with the voices in Kane’s head being piped out to the audience is here, and the second trailer, along with the announcers being afraid to even mention the movie’s launch date is here.
